Vedika Tripathi – Believe in yourself to achieve your goals

Vedika Tripathi’s story is no less than an inspiration. Let’s read her story in her own words.

Having faith in yourself can change your life and make you achieve even your most ambitious goals.

Vedika Tripathi disease

When I was in 9th standard, I was diagnosed with a disease called Neurocysticercosis. The parasitic worm that causes this condition reached my brain through the blood and affected my right hand severely. Doctors said it would take time to get cured, which got my parents very worried. Everyone thought of not sending me to school anymore, but I never wanted to leave my studies. I wanted to continue no matter what. I started practicing writing with my left hand. It was challenging at first, but slowly I learned to use my left hand. Today, I can write with both my hands. My condition is not yet appropriately cured.

Vedika Tripathi Struggle

Everyone struggles with one thing or another in their lives. My real struggle was not with my disease but with a society that reminds you of your suffering. When something happens to a girl, the first question is, “Who will marry her?” It was very hard to face, but I never let them be a barrier between me and my career.

I always wanted to be a businesswoman, so I pursued commerce. At that time, we were in Kanpur, and I graduated from Kanpur University. After that, my Father got transferred to Indore, where he suggested that I pursue Mass communication, to which I disagreed. I preferred Delhi over Indore for my studies. I applied to all possible Delhi-based colleges, and by coincidence, my Father got transferred to Delhi.

However, I wasn’t able to qualify for the exams. I started preparing for CAT on my own and finished my MBA from International Business School in 2010. With MBA classes, I started doing Mass communication in the same institute. I was living a PG life back then. After the completion of my course, I wanted to work in the event management line. I convinced my parents to let me pursue it as a business.

Vedika Tripathi Business

I, along with two of my colleagues, started our own company. We registered on Just dial, and my journey began from there. We used to run from market to market to get the best products at reasonable rates, get things printed, work on cutouts till late night, and whatnot. Everything was smooth until both of my partners decided to quit due to some reason. But I didn’t stop; I decided to continue with it alone. I got a job as an event officer and started managing in parallel to my business.

In 2011, my grandfather lost his eyesight. My Father decided to shift to Kanpur again. I was very disappointed at that time as I set up my business in Delhi. I tried setting up my event company in Kanpur but failed. At that time, I was suffering from a spine ailment called lordosis. In my case, it was very severe.

I was not even able to walk. One day I cried all night because I was not achieving what I wanted. I fought with my Father and explained that I wanted to go back to Delhi to start my business again. My Father was worried about my health as I used to faint often. I came back to Delhi and started living in a PG.

Vedika Tripathi Partner

In 2012, I got another opportunity to work as an event officer. One day I met Upadesh, a batchmate from college. We didn’t talk much in college, but then we met that day and discussed life, and he asked if he could help me with my company in any way. He was in real estate at that time. Upadesh coincidentally joined Mudra, which was connected to Abbott Nutrition India. Eventually, we started meeting almost every day and in no time decided to start working together.

In 2014, I fell very sick and was admitted to a hospital. Upadesh used to take care of me as my parents were in Kanpur. One day my parents invited him home and asked him to marry me. He asked if I’m ready for this. I told him that I would remain sick and I cannot spoil anybody’s life. He said he is ready for whatever comes our way.

In 2016, we started ‘YouWe and events’ together. Upadesh left his job to focus on our business, and we started with a loss. But as they say, “When you start something from failure, you got to learn a lot and do better” we slowly started to gain profit, and our business started doing well. We got happily married in 2018. From business partners to becoming life partners, it was quite a journey!

One thing which I learned from my journey is that believing is the key. If you don’t believe in yourself, you can’t achieve anything. I kept believing in myself and finally achieved what I wanted: my own business.
