Currently, the environment is highly hostile even for the people staying inside their houses. So Hatke Story has brought this ‘Tales of Corona Survivors’ series to spread positivity and awareness among the crowd. We will be featuring social workers, corona warriors supplying oxygen, corona patients, doctors, and their families in this series. Only to tell you what is going on the ground.

To add to this series, we got connected to Aman Mor. He resides in Narwana Dist Jind (Haryana). Aman is a social worker and has been working in the sector since he was 16 years old. He has done many works in the blood donation department and sanitization area. He currently provides on-cost oxygen to Corona hospitals, covid care centers, in patients’ homes. His team is delivering oxygen cylinders on patients’ doorsteps.

We wished to know his journey as a social worker and wanted to appreciate his efforts, so we connected with him to know more about the ground realities, life, and experience. So here is another covid story for you. Let’s hear it from him.

Aman Mor – Supplying Oxygen – My Story

I’m Aman Mor from Narwana (Jind, Haryana). I am the founder of the Yuva Shakti NGO. As a teenager, I was always attracted to social work, like I loved helping people, fighting for the right things. I wanted to make some difference and bring change in the mindset of people.

The first incident happened when I was in school. Near my school, there is a mosque in the middle of the city. It had a garbage dumping ground where the city’s garbage was dumped, and late-night people used to burn the trash. It polluted the city and the surrounding areas a lot. The arrangement bothered me a lot. When I researched it through Google, I discovered that dumping grounds are created away from the city. However, this one was in the middle of the city.

To reduce the pollution, I went directly to the dumping ground and recorded a video. I shared it on social media after tagging the sitting Chief Minister. The video went viral, and I received a call from the CMO office. At first, they forced me to delete the video, but I refused to do it. They moved the junkyard away from the city within two to three days when I disagreed.

This single incident boosted my confidence, and I decided to work more. I promoted my work, and other people also joined me.

Together, we did things like creating awareness against violence by exposing people who spread violence. We got two government officers suspended. One was suspended for taking bribes and another for misbehaving with a lady.

There was a liquor store at Bhagat Singh Chowk in Narwana where drunkards gathered and bothered the general public. Disturbing peace was their prime goal. To deal with the matter, we filed a case against them. We protested to force the government to take strict action against them, and they did it. That’s how the social worker went on.

In 2019, many blood donation camps were organized by people. So I also wanted to do it. I sought guidance from my aunt, who runs an NGO. She suggested that I should organize a blood donation camp for army people. They have ties with AIIMS, and it’s better to donate to them.

I considered her advice and coordinated with the Delhi army office. The army doesn’t accept less than 350 units of blood. They said, ‘You will have to organize and fund the camp. Our soldiers will come to take the blood units, and you will have to pay for their accommodations.’ I researched more and finally decided to go ahead with the plan. I sent a confirmation mail, and we chose to organize it on 23 March 2019.

To promote the blood donation campaign, I went door to door to spread awareness and tell the value of blood donation. I did crowdfunding to sponsor the blood camp. My family supported the campaign, so they contributed the rest amount.

The day arrived, and nearby 500 volunteers appeared to donate their blood. They only collected 351 units of blood. It was a record-breaking camp as the old record was only 122 units of blood. People applauded my work, and I got more support from them. That’s how Yuva Shakti NGO came into the picture.

Last year in the pandemic, we supplied ration packets, food packages, and masks in slum areas. This year, we are supplying oxygen. We started doing it when I came to know about the crisis through news channels.

In April, the oxygen shortage peaked, and people were dying due to the shortage. Broken health infrastructure, lack of facilities, shortage of oxygen was killing more people than Covid. Meanwhile, my friend’s father was suffering from Covid 19. He was admitted to the hospital. To recover, he needed oxygen, so my friend contacted me. On the phone, he seemed worried and scared. We arranged oxygen for him.

Later, I visited the hospital to check on his father, and I saw people standing in large queues, waiting to get oxygen cylinders, medicines, injections, and hospital beds. At that time, I realized that the situation had gone out of hand, and we couldn’t deal with it. We spoke to the higher authorities to know more about it.

After coming to know the truth, we decided to work in this area. My friend had an oxygen plant, and he agreed to supply oxygen cylinders without hiking the price. We completed the rules and regulations and mentioned our numbers on social media, saying, ‘Contact us if you require oxygen cylinders, medicines, ventilators and hospital bed for Covid treatment. Our numbers are 24*7 active.’

You won’t believe it, we used to get 1000 plus calls daily, and our team answered almost 90% of calls. If we are unable to answer the call, we call them back. We contacted different places to arrange more oxygen cylinders. We delivered oxygen to the hospitals directly and door to door as well. We hired five vehicles to visit all the patients as soon as possible.

At that time, black marketers were charging 20 to 25k per cylinder. At the same time, the original cost is 80 to 110 rupees for small-sized cylinders and 350 to 400 for large cylinders. The situation is still not under control though it has improved a bit. In the past, it was worse because when we’d tell the actual price, people wouldn’t believe us. All the oxygen cylinders were free for everyone. We never charged anything extra—only the actual cost. Home delivery is free.

Till now, we have supplied more than 450 oxygen cylinders to needy people. If someone wants help in the Narwana region, then you can contact us. Our team will deliver the oxygen cylinder to your house.

To conclude the story, I tell our youth, ‘Please stand by our country and help others. Right now, we need each other’s support. You can do it. Nothing is complicated if you are determined, but you need to listen to your voice then no one can stop you.

Also, raise your voice against injustice and illegal activities. Support people who are doing this. Work for others, and it will make you happy from within. Working to help others in their difficult times is the best thing in the world to do.
