Love Care Share foundation has been working towards the betterment of society since the year 2016. The LCS has a team of 200 volunteers and a dedicated team of 20 members working for Blood4Pune. This team consists of people from various backgrounds: Piyush Shah, a software engineer in Accenture. Rishabh Surana, a Data Analyst in Cropin, Prof. Rajkumar Patil, Associate Professor at NIBM Singhad College of engineering. Along with these individuals, Rajas, Pranjali, Pranav, Mayuresh, Meetali, and Apoorva are their team members pursuing their studies in engineering. The team is currently working from Remote locations across India.

This versatile team from diverse backgrounds researches various topics and arranges blood donation camps. As you must have noticed, some members of the LCS foundation are from Computer Engineering backgrounds. They came up with the idea of using their technological expertise to solve blood shortage and waste-related issues.

In 2018, some members of their team had to submit their engineering’s last year project. They researched a topic whole of 2017 and part of 2018 to take it forward. They developed and implemented Progressive Web Applications and Call systems for Blood Request Management systems using Data Mining concepts. Since then, these members have added new features to their system on 14th June every year, i.e., World Donors Day.

In 2019, the team decided to use the enormous reach of the social media platform – Telegram to create and grow a blood donor network. And in 2020, amid the rising pandemic, many offices and institutions were closed. As a result, blood donation camps and institutes weren’t as readily available. People had to wander and struggle to find blood for their near and dear ones.

In May, they decided to use Twitter to overcome this shortage of blood. They noticed that manually it was taking a lot of time to furnish all requests and provide details. Again, they came up with a unique solution of making their process fully automated to minimize the time required. Within a month, on 14th June of 2020, the team inaugurated this aspect of their system, namely ‘Blood for Pune’, with the help of Sir Ram Bangad, who is their Guru in the field of blood donation.

Blood for Pune is a Twitter bot that works 24/7 and helps the citizens of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad to post their Blood Plasma and Platelets requests. Blood4Pune is handled by a few individuals from the Love Care Share foundation itself.

Ever since its inauguration, 732 patients have requested blood, plasma, or platelets from their system. They requested a total of 1347 units. During the ongoing second wave and the harsh months of the Covid spike in India, the foundation is witnessing 5 lakh views. It is helping connect requests and donors with the tag line “We Connect, You Donate.”

The LCS team believes that social work must not be restricted only for special days or programs. It is a change in the attitude of a person. A way and effort to help fellow citizens, the environment, and animals. Sometimes, it becomes difficult for the team to simultaneously manage their respective personal, professional, and social work. But fortunately, all members of the LCS team got rock-solid support from their friends, colleagues, and family members. The team at LCS believes that the youth of the country should utilize their knowledge of technology to create better solutions for society.

The biggest challenge that the team had faced was because of forwarding the information without verification. When the foundation initiated and broadcasted blood requirement messages across Pune, the messages consisted of incomplete details with missing names of hospitals, requirement date, component type, etc. It resulted in chaos and confusion. The team then decided not to post any requirement message with incomplete details. They can see the change after nine months of operation.

Currently, the team is working on new additions to the existing system of Twitterbot. They are working towards their next goal to extend their work to cover a broader region of Maharashtra, named “Blood for Maharashtra.” The foundation’s members will soon be meeting the Health Minister of Maharashtra and State Blood Transfusion Council to implement this.
