Nitin Tailor - Serving happiness across India

Nitin Tailor is on a mission to spread happiness globally and bring a revolution in society through inspirational journeys called Prerna Yatras to unravel the ethereal beauty of our country. More importantly, he is on a mission to imbibe and spread cultural values and the ensuing happiness onto our persona and the world.

A recipient of the Entrepreneur of the Year (July 2014) award by IIIT Bangalore and Shree Lajpatray Verma award (2014) for his social projects, Nitin Tailor is the CEO and Founder of a social enterprise called “Serve Happiness Foundation.” He has mentored many student startups and works closely with the Government on startup policies to promote entrepreneurship in rural and tribal youth.

How would you describe Nitin Tailor?

Nitin Tailor – I was born and brought up along the banks of the river Narmada in Bharuch, Gujarat. I would describe myself as a fun-loving, down to earth and self-motivated person. I have worked in academia and startups in India (Bangalore) and overseas (Sweden). I am an M. Tech from IIIT, Bangalore, wherein I was also selected as an international student by Malmo University, Sweden. As part of my research work, I represented India and 200 other students from across the world. I was working for a multinational company in Bangalore before I dived into the world of social entrepreneurship.

What inspired you to start the Serve Happiness Foundation?

Nitin Tailor – I always found happiness in working towards bringing about positive change in society at large. Taking the first step towards this, I had the privilege to work as head of the HMP Foundation. We subsequently set up a Community Health Center, Education Center, and Vocational Training Institute (for tribal and rural youth) to improve the health and education of poor people using the latest technology in the rural parts of Bharuch-Narmada District.

Things went to the next level when I met my Co-Founder Anugrah Agrawal, at Startup 2020 event conducted by NASSCOM Foundation at IIM Ahmedabad. We had one vision in common; to create a positive impact in society. That is where the idea of Serve Happiness sprouted, and there was no looking back!

What do you plan to achieve through this endeavor?

Nitin Tailor – I started my social venture to build and improve grassroots communities by connecting passionate individuals to them. We aim to direct today’s youth towards a platform-specific to their interest. We believe this endeavor would inculcate happiness in the youth as they stride along to spread the light of joy in society and the world at large!

Have you collaborated with others?

Nitin Tailor – In the course of our work, we’ve had the pleasure to work on our programs with organizations such as NASSCOM, Banasthali University, Gujarat National Law University, IIIT Bangalore, Ganpat University, Gujarat Technological University, NIT Surat, and CSR of various companies like Petronet LNG Ltd., UPL Ltd., Hindalco Industries Ltd., etc.

In the past, I was also extended an invitation to become a founding member of the World Happiness Consortium by the International Happiness Initiative (an initiative of the United Nations) along with attending a conference at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York on the eve of International Happiness Day.

Could you elaborate on your initiatives?

Nitin Tailor – Narmada Prerna Yatra, Sabarmati Prerna Yatra, Tapi Prerna Yatra, and Jaipur Prerna Yatra are journeys to inspire youth by connecting them with real-life heroes from varied sectors like health, education, agriculture, etc. We are trying to inspire rural youth to set up small-scale enterprises in dairy technology, agriculture, and food processing in their village to generate employment and development.

It couldn’t have been a more honorable moment for the Narmada Prerna Yatra (Gramin Yuva Edition) Report to be launched and graced by the esteemed signature of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on 20th June 2015. The Bharuch Sujani Craft Project revises this unique dying art of Bharuch called Sujani, the Rural Entrepreneurship programs, and Women Empowerment programs are our other active initiatives.

We end this story with a quote by Azadeh Tajdar.

“Democracies flourish when large numbers of citizens acquire the capacity to shape civic and economic life. Social Entrepreneurship is a process that enables citizens to do that.”
