Be the CHANGE you WISH To SEE

change

India is a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic whose constitution guarantees its citizens justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. The word SYSTEM is used synonymously with the government and the constitution that governs the operational structure of the country. I am sure most of you have indulged in a heated discussion about what has to change and how the present working system is flawed.

Discussions regarding any change in the system have one thing in common: someone to blame. Time and again, we exclude ourselves, our beloved ones, and friends from the blame list. The irony is that the very same person who talks about change at some point in life goes to his uncle/aunty working for the government to get things done faster. We are so used to doing things in the “JUGAAD” way that is doing things the right way is considered a waste of time.

Aren’t we all equally responsible for our country? Then why don’t we include ourselves in the list of people who have to change? Well, we may think we have done nothing wrong.

How many of us have NOT/NEVER

  • @ Littered/Spit on the streets.
  • @ Illegally obtained a railway ticket or traveled without a ticket.
  • @ Thrown stuff out of a railway compartment instead of using a dustbin
  • @ Misbehaved with labor.
  • @ Violated traffic rules or bribed traffic police/civil police for whatsoever reason.
  • @ Accepted money/gifts from a political party (It doesn’t matter if you voted for them or not).
  • @ Evaded tax or bribed someone.
  • @ Urinated in a place other than public toilets.
  • @ Used unlicensed software (especially windows)
  • @ Smoked in public, drove after having a so-called small/negligible drink.

And the list goes on.

If you have not done any of the above wrongdoings, you are either a kid, a ghost, or maybe an alien to this country. Jokes aside, if you haven’t indulged in any of the above activities, you are a role model. If simple situations like the above are considered, we are the first ones to be blamed. It is not the duty of the government or God or any other superpower to set all these things right.

Be the CHANGE you WISH To SEE

Only we, the people can do it. A little caution in every small activity you are doing can make a huge difference and even save lives. It can be as small as throwing a banana peel/wrapper on the road to illegal land registration. If you are kind enough to take the initiative, then CHANGE begins with you.

Only when individuals accept their problem and work sincerely to correct it, CHANGE becomes a reality. We repeatedly quote corruption as one of the main problems haunting our society. Corruption exists only when one person offers money willingly or unwillingly to another person to get things done. It can be considerably reduced if people are united and stand against others who demand money to do their duty. A solution for this global problem lies only in the hands of the people. Never blame others when you aren’t perfect. CHANGE in every individual can CHANGE the whole world. Let’s be part of the change than wait for someone to do it for us.

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”

–Barack Obama

“Very often, a change of self is needed more than a change of scene.”

–A. C. Benson
