1st Period Can Be Embarrassing

You must be surprised or disgusted after reading the title about 1st periods because everyone is talking about menstrual hygiene, and here I’m introducing these story titles. What do I even want to say? Well, it’s a funny story about my school time. So let me tell you what happened that day.

My 1st Period

I was in 7th standard at that time, and it was Maths period going on. Our teacher had given us a sum to solve, and I solved it even before toppers did. I submitted my assignment and the teacher praised me for solving it correctly.

When I sat back in my seat, my friend who was sitting behind me whispered in my ear, “Akshita, there is blood on your skirt.” I felt confused, but I was over the moon after being praised by the teacher, so I shrugged it off, saying, “It’s nothing but red pen marks.” I didn’t even care to look at it, but the whole class saw it. The funniest thing was that it was Wednesday. I was wearing a white uniform. You can imagine what had happened.

Then the bell rang, and lunchtime came. My school was near my home, just a few steps away, and 14 years ago, they allowed us to visit our home to eat breakfast. So when I was going home, everyone was coming to me saying, “Akshita, there is blood on your skirt.” This time, I looked back and found red spots on my skirt. I didn’t know what they were? I had no idea that something like periods even existed. I said, “Someone has spit on my skirt after chewing tobacco. It cannot be blood. I’m completely fine.”

I reached my home, showed it to my mother and she understood everything. She instructed me to take a shower and not to go back. I argued, and then she told me about periods. I fought a lot with her, but my aunt and cousin said similar things, so I was left with no option but to abide by it. So, I stayed home after my 1st Period.

The next day, when I went back, everyone was discussing it. There was a teacher who was a gossip queen of my school. She had discussed it with everyone saying, “Do you know Akshita got her 1st periods yesterday in class.”

Can you believe it? It had turned into a hot gossip topic for them. I was so embarrassed as I had become ‘The Girl Who Got Her 1st Periods In School.’
